"Twelve-year-old Bird Gardner lives a quiet existence with his loving but broken father, a former
...
linguist who now shelves books in Harvard University's library. Bird knows to not ask too many questions, stand out too much, or stray too far. For a decade, their lives have been governed by laws written to preserve "American culture" in the wake of years of economic instability and violence. To keep the peace and restore prosperity, the authorities are now allowed to relocate children of dissidents, especially those of Asian origin, and libraries have been forced to remove books seen as unpatriotic-including the work of Bird's mother, Margaret, a Chinese American poet who left the family when he was nine years old. Bird has grown up disavowing his mother and her poems; he doesn't know her work or what happened to her, and he knows he shouldn't wonder. But when he receives a mysterious letter containing only a cryptic drawing, he is drawn into a quest to find her. His journey will take him back to the many folktales she poured into his head as a child, through the ranks of an underground network of librarians, into the lives of the children who have been taken, and finally to New York City, where a new act of defiance may be the beginning of much-needed change."--

"From the number one bestselling author of Little Fires Everywhere, a deeply suspenseful and

heartrending novel about the unbreakable love between a mother and child in a society consumed by fear Twelve-year-old Bird Gardner lives a quiet existence with his loving but broken father, a former linguist who now shelves books in Harvard University's library. Our Missing Hearts is an old story made new, of the ways supposedly civilized communities can ignore the most searing injustice. Every so often a character so captures the hearts and imaginations of readers that he seems to take
...
on a life of his own long after the final page is turned. For such a character, one book is not enough, readers must know what happens next. Now Dean Koontz returns with the novel his fans have been demanding. With the emotional power and sheer storytelling artistry that are his trademarks, Koontz takes up once more the story of a unique young hero and an eccentric little town in a tale that is equal parts suspense and terror, adventure and mystery, and altogether irresistibly odd. We're all a little odd beneath the surface. He's the most unlikely hero you'll ever meet, an ordinary guy with a modest job you might never look at twice. But there's so much more to any of us than meets the eye, and that goes triple for Odd Thomas. For Odd lives always between two worlds in the small desert town of Pico Mundo, where the heroic and the harrowing are everyday events. Odd never asked to communicate with the dead, it's something that just happened. But as the unofficial goodwill ambassador between our world and theirs, he's got a duty to do the right thing. That's the way Odd sees it and that's why he's won hearts on both sides of the divide between life and death. A childhood friend of Odd's has disappeared. The worst is feared. But as Odd applies his unique talents to the task of finding the missing person, he discovers something worse than a dead body, he encounters an enemy of exceptional cunning, and spirals into a vortex of terror. Once again Odd will stand against our worst fears. Around him will gather new allies and old, some living and some not. For in the battle to come, there can be no innocent bystanders, and every sacrifice can tip the balance between despair and hope. Whether you're meeting Odd Thomas for the first time or he's already an old friend, you'll be led on an unforgettable journey through a world of terror, wonder, and delight, to a revelation that can change your life. And you can have no better guide than Odd Thomas.

There's a place in our hearts reserved for miracles ... On the first day of summer, Mara Jameson
...
went out to water her garden -- and was never seen again. Years after her disappearance, no one could forget the expectant mother whose glowing smile had captured the heart of everyone who'd known her: Maeve Jameson, still mourning the loss of a granddaughter she had struggled to protect ... Patrick Murphy, a dogged police detective obsessed with a vanished woman ... and Lily Malone, drawn to the rugged beauty of the Nova Scotia coast and its promise of a new life. Here Lily hopes to raise her nine-year-old daughter, Rose, far from the pain and loss of the past. Here she will meet a gifted scientist, Liam Neill, whose life is on a similar trajectory from heartbreak to hope. And before the season is over, Lily will find the magic that exists in people we love the best ... the everyday miracles that can make the extraordinary happen anywhere.

Is 'hustle and grind' really the message of The New Way? Is financial freedom really what it's
...
about? is 'living life on our terms' really the summit of this mission? Is The New Way about becoming more successful than our generations before us? This book is a conversation about The New Way to Live, Lead, Earn, and Give. It is a collection of insights and ideas about how we can, and how we are, changing the world. It's an invitation to the New Superheroes-the people all over the world who give a sh*t about each other and our earth-to lighten up in our work as Game Changers. It's a time stamp so that our kids and their kids can read it and say, "oh, so that's what you were growing through back then..." The New Way is not just about having more money at the end of the month. Success as we'd been taught isn't sufficient. Success to our generation looked and felt completely different to what it looked and felt like to generations before us. We millennials do not thrive off gains in a capitalist society. The religious separation that our parents' generation know is torturing our hearts. Our planet isn't a place for us to holiday, but a place of permanent residence with the requirement that we nurture and love our Mother Earth as our one collective mother. There is no 'top' when it comes to leadership, but instead we're all about the power of tribe. We don't care to move forward at lightning speed, but would rather to stop and go back to our indigenous roots and ensure that ancient wisdoms are never forgotten. Taking care of our brothers and sisters who are without basic necessities is the only way we all win. Play is everything. We're here to change the world, but we've gotta stop taking it so seriously. We're here to use our talents and abilities to create epic sh*t, but we've gotta stop missing the point along the way. It's time for us to thrive like no generation before us ever has. It's time for us to show the world how good it's really meant to be. This book is for the millennial conscious leaders and entrepreneurs- those ushering in the new paradigm through their work, art, businesses, leadership.

"We've all explored dance at some point in our lives--in a class, at a wedding, or at a club,
...
crammed onto the floor and moving with the music. But dance is much more than a pleasurable way to pass the time. It could very well be the secret to a happy and healthy life. In Dancing Is the Best Medicine, Julia F. Christensen and Dong-Seon Chang--neuroscientists by day and dancers by night--explore why dancing is good for the body, mind, and soul. Movement, they explain, keeps us healthy, and dance in particular benefits posture, coordination, balance, and fitness. It can be as effective for our cardiovascular health as extreme exercise yet can also be safely practiced by heart attack and stroke patients. It helps with diabetes, arthritis, back pain, and Parkinson's, reduces inflammation, helps to control weight, and improves our immune system. Dancing also makes us happy; it lowers cortisol levels and releases feel-good neurotransmitters and hormones. Best of all, dancing is for everyone. Young or old, physically fit or recovering from an injury, healthy or coping with a chronic illness, there's a dance out there that's perfect for you. So what are you waiting for? Follow Christensen and Chang's lead and get out there and dance!"--
